Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 11,135 Cubs cards from 76 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1950s / 1960s: 1961 Topps #12 Moe Thacker  Moe!  I've written about Moe before.  Moe spent the 1961 season going back and forth between AAA and the Cubs.  He opened the season with the Cubs but lasted only until May 1.  He came back in June before going back to AAA at the end of July.  For the season with the Cubs he hit .171 in 25 games.  I wonder why they kept sending him back?!

1970s: 1976 TCMA 1938 Cubs Bob Logan  TCMA issued a set in 1976 for the 1938 Cubs. A ten game win streak in late September helped this team overtake the Pirates and win the NL pennant.    Logan was not a main cog in the wheels of the 1938 Cubs.  He pitched in only 14 games, all out of the bullpen.  His last appearance was on July 12. At the end of the month the Cubs bought pitcher Vance Page from Indianapolis and sent Logan to Indy as part of the deal.

1980s: 1985 Donruss #117 Keith Moreland  Moreland had the best season of his career in 1985.  He hit .307, belted 14 homers and knocked in a career-high 106 runs.  He even stole 12 bases, the only time in his career he was in double-digits.  He was voted the Chicago Baseball Player of the Year by the Chicago writers.

1990s: 1995 Topps #303 Steve Buechele.  I really like the looks of this card--a third baseman getting down and dirty!  That means that Buechele goes out on a high note, because this was his last Topps card.  He was not good at all in 1995, hitting only .189 for the Cuvs in 32 games before being released on July 6.  The Rangers picked him up a week later, but he hit only .125 for them in 9 games.  They release him on July 31, ending his major league career.

2000s: 2004 Opening Day #41 Hee Seop Choi  The printing deadline for Opening Day must have been really early because the Cubs traded Choi to the Marlins on November 25, 2003.
